Doug Updates

Note from Pastor Doug:

I had an encouraging follow up appointment with my doctor this week and I am on track with recovery. He gave me the green light to begin preaching again on Sunday, November 11. In the meantime, you might catch me in the office easing back into my schedule.

Dear GVC Family,

This past week, because of a complication with the surgery, I had to go back to the hospital to have it resolved. They tell me I should now be completely on the mend.  That being said, it delayed my recovery a bit.  I have been following the UNCOMMON series with great interest and am eager to be back with you ASAP.  Next week my doctors will advise me on when I can return to work.  I am trusting their wisdom as well as the encouragement from the board to take time to fully recover.

Cindy has been amazing through all of this.  She was back at church last week and relayed your expressions of love to me.  Your support, meals, and cards have been over the top!  Thank you so much!  Can’t wait to be back with you soon.

God’s Best,

Doug

Note from Pastor Doug:

Recovery is going slowly but in the right direction. In a recent setback, I had to return to the hospital to repair some internal bleeding. (I thought I was done with the hospital – ugh). But the procedure was successful and am on the mend again. Thank you for continued prayer.

Note from Pastor Doug:

Dear GVC Family,

Turns out, the surgery was timely, necessary, and successful.  They got it small and early. It was cancerous, stage 1.  They are sure they got it all and there is a very high likelihood that it will never resurface.

It’s all a bit sobering, but I’m praising God for such a good prognosis. I now have a great team of experts to guide me with healthy follow up.  Most importantly, we serve a faithful God who is fully capable.

I am getting stronger every day.  We are eager to celebrate the birth of our first grandchild this December. And stay healthy to watch him grow up in the coming decades. 😉

There isn’t enough room to list all the ways GVC folks have shouldered this burden with me.  My overwhelming thanks to you.

Much love,
Doug

PS  We’ll continue to update you on my recovery on the website and when I’ll be back in the saddle.

The surgery was very successful. They removed a small mass from one of Doug’s kidneys. The surgeon said he was able to remove all of it with completely clear margins. Doug is home and recovering and thanks you so much for your ongoing prayers.

Doug came out of surgery at 6:45pm.  The doctor was very happy saying the surgery went smooth with no complications. Doug is home and recovering, but they won’t have lab results until next week. They thank you all for your prayers, and ask you to continue praying for a quick recovery and positive results.

Dear GVC Family,

I just wanted to let you know that my kidney surgery is tomorrow afternoon. The plan is to completely remove a small mass.   I’m told they should know the outcome of the biopsy by the middle of next week. I’m so grateful to have God through all of this, to have the overwhelming prayers and support of a loving church, and a great medical team.
By the way, I didn’t plan to talk about Peace on the Sunday before my surgery, but apparently God knew it was good for me to have extended time to reflect on it. 😉
Much love,
Doug

Thank you for your prayers for Doug!  He is scheduled for surgery on Friday, Sept. 28 at 1:00pm.  They expect to keep Doug overnight at the hospital for a couple nights following his surgery.  Doug and Cindy have appreciated your words of encouragement and feel your heartfelt prayers.

Dear GVC Family,

I recently found out there is a small mass in one of my kidneys and they’re not sure if it is cancerous or benign, so they need to remove it. I wanted to let you know right away.  Doctors assure me that it is small and that they found it early.

While this is not the kind of news anyone wants to receive, I am thankful to live at a time when they can catch this early and successfully treat it.  Again, they are not sure what it is, and will only know after surgery.  The surgeon is confident that, either way, he can get it all and it is very unlikely to return.

I will have surgery late September with two weeks of recovery.  I cherish your prayers on this so much.  These things never come at a good time.  There are so many exciting things on the horizon.  But, for all of us, news like this anchors us to what is really important. I am so thankful for our faithful church family, through thick and thin.  Your prayers and support to Cindy and me mean so much.

Much love,

Doug Kyle
